A Master programme in
International Financial Management
The Master of Science programme in International Financial
Management is a joint effort of the University of Groningen in
The Netherlands and Uppsala University in Sweden, two
internationally well-known Universities, highly ranked with
regard to their educational and research standards.
This fulltime academic Master offers a 90 EC double degree
programme, built around three semesters, over a period of 18
months. Both universities offer part of the
curriculum, so during the course of the programme students will
travel to live and study in Groningen and in Uppsala. On
successful completion of the programme students will be
accredited with a Master of Science degree from University of
Groningen and a Master of Science degree from Uppsala
University.
Furthermore, during the summer there is the option of travelling
to the U.S.A., to study a term at University of Florida. On
completion of this term students will be awarded a certificate
in Asset Management.
The programme is taught in English and is open to multilingual,
internationally oriented students with a Bachelor degree (e.g.
BSc or BA) with Economics or Management (Business
Administration) as the main field of study. Work experience is
not required.
First semester (September to mid January)
The first semester you will study at the University of
Groningen, in The Netherlands. You will be introduced to
international financial management with courses on international
financial markets, international management accounting,
international business and management, and international
economics and business.
Second semester (mid January to mid June)
For the second semester, you will travel to Sweden to study at
Uppsala University. Here your knowledge will be furthered
through courses on international financial management, advanced
company valuation, marketing of financial services, and
international business negotiations.
OPTIONAL: A Summer term at University of Florida (mid June
to mid August)
After completing the second semester in Uppsala, you may choose
to travel to the U.S.A. in the Summer, to study at the
University of Florida. Here you can take courses in
international working capital management, asset selection and
management, and fixed income valuation.
Third semester (September to January)
Finally, for the third semester, you will do a research project,
analyzing a particular problem in which international, financial
and management aspects are combined. In this project you can
demonstrate your knowledge of the theory and practice of
international financial management, as well as your ability to
apply this to real-life problems and/or to develop ideas and
theories in international financial management. The research
project will result in a Master’s thesis. You can do this
research project at the University of Groningen or at Uppsala
University, the choice is yours.
